about

The WILD HEARTS EP was written by L. Marie Cook on the back of a break up, a relationship which had completely stifled her creatively, where she nearly stopped making music all together. When she moved out, her friends rallied around her in her lowest point and asked her to have a jam session. It was just enough of a spark to awaken a deluge of emotional melodies and the vulnerably poetic lyrics that came rushing out of her like a Pandora’s box. To help heal, L. Marie was soothing herself deep in the books of John Steinbeck, inspiring the nautical environments of title track “Wild Hearts” and “Vulture.” Navigating the stormy waters of dating again inspired the messages in “Hurricanes” and “Baby Cobra.”

“Not all the songs are about my ex, JP, some of the songs have pieces of people I dated after him, some before. But that relationship was very damaging, and these songs capture my journey of reclaiming my identity and self-esteem,” says L. Marie.

Recording of the WILD HEARTS EP began in the summer of 2018 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY. The same friends who encouraged her to make music again came together in support of the EP. Dan Connor rented a recording space, co-producing, engineering and playing bass and synth. David Fine and Zac Pless traded off on drums and Furmi Gomez showed up with his lap-steel and saxophone. L. Marie Cook provides both main and background vocals, electric ukulele, piano, keys and Rhodes.
